The House of St Barnabas is excited to announce the first date of its collaborations with Classic Album Sundays, forming part of the charity’s on-going Culture Series hosted from their beautiful chapel. The House of St Barnabas’ not-for profit members’ club opens early autumn.

On Sunday 13 October Classic Album Sundays will celebrate Nick Drake’s seminal album “Bryter Layter”. The album will be presented by CAS founder Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy and guest host Nick Drake producer Joe Boyd. Following the album presentation, the album will be played in it’s entirety on an exquisite Audio Note hi-fi. This will take place in the atmospheric and intimate surroundings of the chapel at The House of St Barnabas, described by the Financial Times’ How to Spend It as one of Soho’s ‘hippest hang-outs’.

CAS allows the listener to fully immerse themselves in the music by presenting the musical context, the story behind the album and an uninterrupted replay of the album on vinyl on one of the world’s best audiophile hifi sound system (with phones switched off and no conversation). People learn about the history of the album and contemporary relevance, and then hear things they have never heard before. Often people are moved to tears when they hear the details and full emotive force of their favorite recordings through the enhanced performance playback.

The next in the series will feature Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells on Sunday 8th December.

The House of St Barnabas has been a charity in the heart of Soho, London since 1846. Its vision today is to create a future where sustained employment is a reality for those affected by homelessness. This autumn, the club at The House of St Barnabas will open its doors, the first not-for-profit members’ club with an integrated Employment Academy supporting London’s homeless back in to work. The club will provide opportunities for work experience in a dynamic environment with first rate commercial hospitality training.

The House of St Barnabas is dedicated to programming events that challenge, entertain and inspire. Prior to this forthcoming season, The House of St Barnabas Presents has welcomed a dazzling array of creative talent into the beautiful chapel for these inimitable events. Founding partner Richard Strange and his A Mighty Big If evenings have spoken to the likes of Ron Arad, Peter Capaldi, and Brian Cox. Turner Prize winning contemporary artist and musician Martin Creed has introduced and performed with Slow Club and Sweet Baboo, in partnership with Moshi Moshi Records, and a new partnership with creative consultancy BUG launched in April, featuring a panel discussion with Ekow Eshun, Miranda Sawyer, Marc Hare and Charlie Porter. Further events will examine ’37 Things You Need To Know About Modern Britain’.

About Classic Album Sundays

Classic Album Sundays is the world’s most popular record club and album listening event with regular sessions in cities throughout the world including London, Glasgow, New York, Tokyo, Oslo, Edinburgh and Boston with more cities added monthly.

CAS allows the listener to fully immerse themselves in the music by presenting the musical context, the story behind the album and an uninterrupted replay of the album on vinyl on one of the world’s best audiophile hi-fi sound system (with phones switched off and no conversation). People learn about the history of the album and contemporary relevance, and then hear things they have never heard before. Often people are moved to tears when they hear the details and full emotive force of their favorite recordings through the enhanced performance playback.

CAS has touched upon a cultural nerve with its mission of challenging the way we listen to music in the 21st Century:

•           Musical Formats: low resolution digital files versus quality analog pressings, the vinyl renaissance

•           Our Musical Interaction: prolonged attention spans, dedicating time to listening to entire album in our hectic modern lives,               sharing music together rather than listening in isolated instances

•           The Album Format: the album as a collection of short stories or novel, why some albums should be listened to in their entirety,    the importance of album sequencing of albums

Classic Album Sundays has raised the debate that has engaged artists, producers, record labels and ultimately the music fans themselves. But not only has CAS raised the issues, it has also created a unique experience which has instigated a trend.

About the Club at The House of St Barnabas:

The club at The House of St Barnabas will offer its members a beautiful and historic Soho hub, in the stunning setting of its home on Greek Street, Soho. Imbued with its own distinctive charm, the club will boast meeting rooms and event spaces, as well as exciting new restaurant and bar and access to their tranquil secluded courtyard garden.

The evolution of The House of St Barnabas’ charitable work sees the creation of an Employment Academy focusing on the individual, boosting their personal development, building confidence and teaching hospitality industry-specific skills. By nurturing the talents that already exist they will give everyone that enrols at the Academy supported on-site work experience in the not-for-profit members’ club; housed in the charity’s historic Grade I listed building in central London.
